Ben Simmons Returns to NBA, Signs One-Year Deal With Sacramento Kings**

September 5, 2026 — NBA News

Former No. 1 overall pick Ben Simmons is making his return to the NBA after agreeing to a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Sacramento Kings, according to reports. Simmons missed the entire 2025–26 season while dealing with chronic back problems.

The 30-year-old guard last played for the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2024–25 season. Before injuries disrupted his career, Simmons established himself as one of the league’s most versatile young players, earning three All-Star selections and two All-Defensive Team honors.

Simmons has averaged 13.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.5 steals over 383 NBA games. His ability to defend multiple positions, create plays and rebound from the guard position could give Sacramento another experienced option in the backcourt.

The Kings are expected to begin their preseason on October 5 against the Los Angeles Lakers, giving Simmons an opportunity to show how much he has recovered before the regular season begins. Sacramento’s regular-season opener is scheduled for October 21 against the Clippers.

Can Simmons Revive His NBA Career?

Simmons’ return will be one of the interesting storylines heading into the 2026–27 NBA season. If he can stay healthy and regain his defensive and playmaking form, the veteran guard could become an important part of Sacramento’s rotation.

For Simmons, the new contract represents more than just another NBA opportunity—it could be a chance to restart a career that was once considered among the league’s brightest.
